Project coordination

Match the foundation drawings to the steel kit

Identify who coordinates the building drawings, foundation design and anchor layout before a steel kit project reaches the slab.

The concrete crew and steel supplier need to work from coordinated drawings. Confirm the building dimensions, foundation details and current drawing revisions before concrete work starts.

Identify the controlling information

Ask the building supplier what project-specific information the foundation designer needs and when it will be issued. Give the foundation professional the intended use, site information and equipment requirements. A sketch used for an early estimate should remain clearly distinguished from documents approved for construction.

If a slab already exists, provide available records and photographs for assessment. Do not treat its dimensions as confirmation that it suits the new kit. Compatibility requires review of more than the outline visible above ground.

Keep changes connected

If an opening, column position or building dimension changes, have the steel supplier and foundation designer check the drawings before work continues. Ask who communicates revisions to the concrete crew and how superseded drawings are removed from use. Maintain a simple revision list with dates and the people who received each issue.

Define the verification handoff

Discuss who checks the foundation and anchor layout against the applicable project documents before erection. Ask the foundation designer and steel supplier to confirm who checks each detail. Your role as buyer is to make sure the responsibility exists and is included in the scope.
